Now this is a first for my blog, in over 6 years I’ve refused to get political on your ass, as my primary aim is to document my sex life.  However, after the recent US elections, and what happened tonight I felt compelled to ask the question – How stupid are Republicans?

Long story medium length:

I was chatting in the bar tonight to a couple (straight) from New Jersey, USA who were holidaying over here.  We got chatting about the UK and the USA, comparisons etc and over the course of the discussion she let it be known that she hated President Barack Obama and all that the Democrats stood for.  I never argued with her, despite disagreeing with everything she said. In an attempt to get the conversation off politics, I mentioned that a huge idol of mine is from New Jersey – straight away the woman asked, “is it a musical idol?”  Yes, I replied.  “The BOSS!” She guessed… and yes, it was!

I am a HUGE Bruce Springsteen fan after being brought up on him by my farther.

Then things took a change for the down right surreal.  We moved onto our favorite Boss songs.  To my amazement, she said her favorites were “Born In The USA” and “American Skin (41 Shots)”.

Now, those of you who know the Boss’ songs will know that there are perhaps the two of the most ANTI USA songs he has done.  Not in a “the USA is a bad place”, but more highlighting the flaws in his own nation.  Born In The USA is voicing anti US sentiment over the Vietnam conflict, and 41 Shots is based on the unnecessary fatal shooting of a black teenager – focusing on the fact that if you’re black in certain areas of the USA, you need to be street wise, and not hide your hands from the cops etc…

Two very powerful songs which highlight the GOP’s beliefs as being totally wrong compared to the rest of the Western World…. Yet this Republican had named them as her greatest songs, albeit by a DEMOCRATIC musician, of all time.

When I asked her why, she said, and this is no bullshit – “They highlight the best things about being an American”.
